SUGAR CARGOES WORKED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 10, 9 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. The wharf laborers commenced working cargoes of Queensland sugar. Upon receipt of a telegram from Brisbane; stating that the agreement had been signed, work on all cargoes was immediately undertaken. CHILD KILLED BY ROOSTER. Received 10, 0.30 p.m. Sydney, August 16. A child seven months old died as a result of being pecked on the head by a rooster. The skull was fractured. SIR JOSEPH WARD. Received 10, 0.38 p.m. Perth, August 10. The Ruapehu, with Sir Joseph Ward aboard, passed Albany yesterday. TRADE IN N.S.W. Received 17, 12.30 a.m. Sydney, August 10. During 1910 the value of the products of New South Wales manufactures and works was £ 1*7,580,208, an increase of 10 per cent on the previous year. In ten years the number of factories increased by 44 per cent., persons employed increased 51 per cent., and the output of factories 94 per cent., and the amount of salaries and wages 70 per cent. THE WAGGA WAG CI A TRAGEDY. Received 17, 12.30 a.m. Sydney, August 10. At the inquest in connection with the Wagga Wagga tragedy the coroner stated that careless delivery of a posted letter from the wife to the husband instead of to a brother led to the crime. AUSTRALIAN RAILWAY METALS. Received 17, 12.25 a.m. Sydney, August 10. A test for deflection in steel rails was made at Lithgow. Locally-made and imported rails gave exactly the same results, indicating that Messrs. Iloskins arc making a satisfactory article.
