PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEBTING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held at Rahotu on Thursday laßt. Present: Messrs Young (chairman), Potter, Harvey, Duckcr and Willcox. Th chairman thought that to confirm the minutes of the special meeting would bind them to the %d rate. Whilst believing that some of the roads could do with a %d rate, his ward (Oaonui) could could very well with a V 2 d rate. — The members who attended the special meeting were of opinion there was nothing to bind in the %d rate proposal.— The minutes of the special meeting wefe confirmed. Mr. Harvey brought up the question of the horse "and dray, stating that the present method does not work well.—The chairman moved that four shillings per day be charged to each road that the horse and dray are used on.—Carried. The chairman brought up the question of the Oaonui dairy factory obtaining the services of the foreman for a day in laying off a water Tace.—iMr. Harvey moved that the time worked by the foreman be charged to the Oaonui Dairy Company.—Seconded by Mr. Ducker and carried. Residential.—The foreman reported that he was quite willing to comply with the wish of the Board and live in Rahotu. Kaweora road.—S. T. Cox wrote drawing the attention of the Board to the bad state? of: the Kaweora road.—The foreman to visit and inspect the road and repair same if it is not too costly. Request. —Mr. B. Dive asked for probable amount of grants required for roads in the district. The Estimates would soon be framed by the Department, and he required the information. —The cleric to attend to the request. Quarry.—Mr. Murray, road inspe«tor (who has been appointed inspector of quarries) asked for particulars of quarries under the Board's jurisdiction.—The foreman and clerk to go into the matter and reply to the inspector. Waiteaika road.—Mr. C. Malcolm, who had been written to about the blocking up of a drain, replied that "it must be a mistake, as he had absolutely nothing to do with the section." —The chairman moved that Mr. R. Mourri be written to to have the obstruction on the Waiteaika road cleared out, failing which the Board would take steps to have it done and recover cost from the owner.

Opua road. —Mr. Willcox moved that the Board put two men and a dray on to assist in repairing the road. —Carried. Thq ,cler|v is to write to Mr. Bishop, drawing his attention to the gorse, and that he bq, requested to remove same frorti out of the ditch within 14 days, failing which the Board will have tho work done and recover cost of same him.

Pungarehu.—The Chief Surveyor forwarded a -tracing of where the proper road ; at .Pupgajehu should be.—Mr. Will'CO* the Public Trustee be fo .Stating that the .white settlers tho native fences to he put on tne. proper surveyed line.—Carried.

Holidays.—The chairman said that he noticed by the pay-sheet that some of the hands worked and others. did not on Coronation Day.—ln reply to the chairman the foreman said these two men stated that they knocked off under Mr. i|( consent—Mr. Willcox warmly, doiiied- that he ever gave permission or interfered with the workmen. He moved that the men who did not work have tho day's pay deducted.—This was done.

Jlr. .Harvey moved as a notice of motion, that a halfpenny rate be struck over the whole of the wards. Instruction. The chairman moved that two days on the Warea-Xewall and two days on the Xgariki roads be put in by the staff.—Seconded by Mr. Potter and carried.—Mr. Ducktr said if it were necessary to put metal out he would lend his team for the purpose.
