DISTRICT NEWS.

WARM. (From Our Own Correspondent.) After the annual meeting of the Warea Dairy Company last Monday a directors' meeting was held, when Mr. J a iik'.s Burgess was again elected chairman, ajid Mr. Hugh Baily secretary. The Puniho social, which was to have taken place on the 18th, has keen postponed, owing to the school being closed for typhoid fever amongst the Maoris. Although the health authorities have visited the pa, they seem to have done very little good, and won't, I am afraid, as long as the Maoris are allowed to roam the country like they are doing. They are at all the sales that come along, and are continually to be found around public places. The other night a traveling company showed at the Okato Hall, and thn majority of the Maoris from ■the affected area of the pa were in the hall. This is not right. How can the disease be stopped from spreading if this is allowed to go on? The next thing will be that the disease will break out among the white children. Then we will probably see y a difference. The places will be isolated, and the authorities will go nearly as far as standing outside the buildings with, guns watching that nobody goes in or out. Mr. .Tames Ross, who was. first assistant at the local factory when the first year's cheese was made, and afterwards secured the managership of a factory in the Auckland district, is spending a few do-vs' holiday here. The basket social in aid of the hall building fund will be held on August 23rd. The milk supply at the local factory, as well as the Newall road, is increasing very fast, the largest supplier having niltout twelve hundred pounds for the two days. The factory will run every day after this. The turbine at the local factory, which has again been under its annual repair, was started on Saturday morning, and it is at last going to give satisfaction. I understand that our local storekeeper. Mr. T. R. Julian, has disposed of his business, and will be leaving us shortly. The purchaser is Mr. K. Andrews, who has been for -a time connected with Messrs. T. P. Hnghson and Sons.
