ANGLO-AMERICAN TREATY
FATE HANGS IX BALANCE? By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 14, 12.30 a.m. Washington, August 13. Disregarding Mr. Taft's telegraphic protest, the Senate amended the Anglo-French-American arbitration treaties, eliminating the provision conferring special powers on a joint high commission. Old World dominance is feared by Senators, reference being made to Sir. James Bryce's book on the American Commonwealth, which, years ago, attacked the Senate for political bias in treatymaking. Mr. Taft did not intend to agree to the deletion of the objectionable paragraph, and the fate of the treaties hangs in the balance.
