GENERAL TELEGRAMS.

SELLING MAORI LANDS TO THE CROWN. 1 By Telegraph—Press Association. J Hastings. Last Night. \ The Ikaroa .Maori Laud Board has had before it at Hastings to-day several meetings of assembled owners of native lands to hear their views as to selling to the Crown. The lands in question are Owhaoko, Timahanga, Omahaki, Kaon and part of Awartia, representing roughly about 100,(100 acres. The land ,is of poor quality, the valuation ranging from 4s per acre to 10s. and is practically unoccupied. Should the Crown purchase, it is anticipated that the land will lie leased in large areas. This will have a double advantage, first., of waste lands being turned to profit, and, second, the occupiers will band together to combat the advance of noxious weeds and rabbits, which at present are such a growing menace to the lands referred to, as well as to adjoining properties. The blocks referred to are on the slopes of the Ruahine. extending beyond Kuripapango inland to Patea. THE " NE TEMERE" DECREE, Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington District Congregational Conference passed a resolution strongly protesting against the "No temere" decree, and requesting the district committee to frame, a protest and send it to the proper quarters. ■PROGRESSIVE WANGANUI.
