ENTERTAINMENTS.
SAUNDERS' PICTURES. The change of programme was viewed by a crowded house last night, and every item on the lengthy list was enthusiastically received by a most appreciative audience. A distinct improvement in the popular entertainment was the addition of a small but brilliant orchestra, consisting of Messrs. Golding (piano), Cooke (violin), Cottier (clarionette) and Saunders (cornet) —a wellbalanced combination, and every player an artist on his respective instrument. The selection of films was exceptional even for the Biograph Pictures, and included at least six pictures that could well be starred anywhere. "Wedding Bells," an Edison production, is one of Wie well-known educational dramas by that company, clearly demonstrating the evils and insanitary conditions of "sweat shops," and the danger in using goods from such places. ''The Survival of the Fittest" is another powerful star drama, also "The Outbreak," "The Lost Ribbon." The Coronation pictures were again well received, and stand in popularity with "Pathe Gazette 115." Every number of this popular journal seems an improvement on the last, and the latest number is practically another fine addition to the Coronation pageant. The industrial section was well represented' by "Marble Quarries of Cararra" and "The Royal Mint." "Foolshead as Insurance Agent" shows points to even the present day Insurance canvasser. Other i urnics wen' "Borrowed Flats" and a screaming star comedy by the.Vitagraph Company, entitled "The Now Stenographer," which dispersed the large aiidiwii-e in the best of good humor. This unique series will be repeated again to-night and to-morrowj night, and will undoubtedly pack the comfortable little hall each night.
['OVAL PIC'FL'UES AND ORCHESTRA. The Coronation film was the "star" attraction (if the Royal Pictures and Orchestra last night. It was a splendid; picture, and was quite different to that whie.h has already been shown. The route of the Royal progress before the procession took place was shown. Then followed a realistic presentation of the great Coronation procession through the streets of London. In this the spectator was furnished with a magnificent panoramic view of the scene as witnessed in Piccadilly, the portion of the route shown being thronged by vast crowds of sightseers, and an unparalleled display of gorgeous decorations. The passage of the King and Queen in the State coach, drawn by the famous team of eight cream horses, judging by the gesticulations of the crowd, appeared to raise the assembled populace to rounds of cheers, whilst the colonial troops and Indian princes on stately chargers also came in for their share of appreciation. Well-known buildings were easily recognised, whilst the unbounded enthusiasm of the assembled populace was a striking feature of the pictures. Colonial troops visiting the Olympia Horse Show and attending church service, New Zealand's arch and decorations in Whitehall, are scenes all faithfully reproduced. The naval review at Spithead was an interesting feature, and the Royal yacht, "Victoria and Albert," was conspicuously shown, A change of the general pro. gramme was put on, and the films were up to the firm's usual standard of excellence. A gorgeously colored film, ''The Masked ball," was perhaps the best of ifs kind ever screened here, and that it met with the approval of the audience was manifest. "A Mexican Legend'' and "The Pointsman" >vere dramatic, the latter being being too blood-curdling. "Tunis and Ruins of Carthage" was a very interesting scenic film. The comic element was provided in "The affected Young Ladies," "Sweet Tempered Wife" and "Tom Thumb in Love." No performance will be given to-night, but to-morrow night the Coronation pictures and others will be shown.
