When Admiral Togo visited the Capitol the Senate and the House of Representatives honored him by adjourning for fifteen minutes, and heartily cheered him. A Bill was introduced into the Senate radically altering the immigration laws. It proposes to repeal the Chinese exclusion laws, replacing them with persons not eligible to become naturalised citizens, the exceptions being Government officers, travellers, and members of the learned professions. Received 10, 12.25 a.m.
It is not proposed to alter the existing laws prohibiting Chinese from becoming naturalised citizens. Boards of enquiry are provided for to decided disputed questions regarding the admissibility of aliens.
