For the Australian Steeplechase the final acceptors are Grafnax, Confide, Mima to, Bribery, Steam, Concave, Field Trial, Squirm, Hondo, Leah Kleshna, and Southerly. GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. PIAMTUTU WINS THE STEEPLECHASE.

By Telegraph—Pr*is Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The weather was> unsettled for the opening day of the Canterbury Jockey Cluib's Grand National meeting at Riccarton to-day. Light showers fell during the morning, but not sufficient to seriously interfere with the attendance o? affect the going. There were also showers during the afternoon, but they soon passed off. There was a very large attendance, including Lord Islington and members of his staff. The racing generally was interesting. The win of Paritutu in the Steepleclias© was remarkably popular. There were several spills during the day, but no serious mishaps resulted, though J. Delaney had his collarbone broken. The totalismtor investments were £29,574, as against £20,408 last year, when bookmakers were licensed. Results:—

Hunters' Hurdles Handicap, of 130 sovs; once round and a distance.—Hawick 11.11, 1; Nedra 10.4, 2; Simon Pure 10.9, 3. Also started: Mauri, Shillelagh, Sabine, Sylvia Maid, Myall, Master Webib, Miharo and Wirahana. Won easily by two and a half lengthß. Mauri, Myall and Miharo fell. Time, 3min 10 l-ssec.

Antarctic took charge going along the back, and made practically all the running till turning into the straight, where Corazon and Paritutu closed on him. Corazon was first over the last jump, ibut in the run home Paritutu put in a determined challenge and won by a head. Antarctic was two lengUis away, followed by Red McGregor, The Gunner, Le Beau, and True Blue. Winiata and Dorando fell. Time, 7min 12 4-ssec.

Tally-Ho Plate Steeplechase, of 100 sovs; two miles and a half—Hill Lass 12.10, 1; Silver Blaze 12.7, 2; Glenmore 12.10, 3. Also started: Uncle Tom, Matai, Wait-a-bit, Flamingo, Kingvvay, and Kildare. Won by four lengths. Flamingo finished second, but was disqualified for short weight. Time, smin 25scc.
