MR FISHER.
GETS THE SHOCK OF HIS LIFE. THE STEAD "INTERVIEW." By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 9, 12.30 a.m. Fremantle, August 8. Mr. Filler arrived by the Osterley. One of his staff stated that Mr. Fisher got the shock of his life at Colombo on reading Mr. Stead's alleged interview. He never saw a man so thunderstruck. Mr. Fisher, questioned regarding the matter, said he had nothing more to say. He thought what he said at Colombo covered the ground. "I might add that it would have been stupid of .me to say we will haul down the Union Jack and hoist our own flag and start on our own. We could not hoist our own flag, because it is always flying here. Under the new naval agreement the Australian ships fly at the stern the white ensign as a symbol of the authority of the Crown, and at the jackstaff the Commonwealth flag." He expressed satisfaction at the work of the Imperial Confereace.
