The Waitara Borough Council hit jaet % received the result of the arbitration <'j proceedings in connection with the prite . overpaid to the Mepban, Ferguson Steel Pipe Company for carrying out the waterworks contract. Owing to a variatiom ' j of the original agreement the terms of - * settlement of the Council's liability be- i/l came questioned. The borough'paid ' £13,828 13a 2d under the certificate of ,■' its engineers, but the company claimed ' £1267 14s 9d more. The arbitrator* did not agree, and left the matter to the umpire,, who decided that the borough should pay £298 14s lOd in full satisfaction, the costs of arbitration, amounting to £l2B 2s, to be borne by the parties equally.
