RIOTS IN QUEENSLAND. SEVERAL STRIKERS IMPRISONED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Brisbane, August 4. Nine men arrested in connection with the Childers riot have been sentenced to three months' imprisonment, on charges of intimidation. The police visited the Childers strikers' camp and arrested sixteen more unionists. At Mackay, strikers induced the crew of the steamer Trinawar to leave the vessel because she had towed a lighter loaded with non-union sugar. At Townsville the strikers induced a number of free laborers who were proceeding to Cairns to join the strike. At Bundaberg twelve strikers have been committed for trial on charges of unlawful assembly. SERIOUS RIOTS IN CAIRO. Cairo, August 3. During the tramway strike there were 6erious riots, and the police relentlessly sabred the rioters, who replied with /tones and some with revolvers. Thirty persons were injured, including several of the police. Cars were wrecked. HOBART STRIKE ENDED. Hobart, August 4. The carters' strike has ended, the men having accepted the terms offered l»y the employers, which provide for increases, but not so large as the union remanded. BOYCOTTING AT ANTWERP. Received 4, 10 p.m. London, August 4. Some of the' vessels which were unable to load in London were ordered to Antwerp. The foreign unions have been instructed to boycott them. 20,000 STRIKERS ON THE THAMES. London, August 4. There are twenty thousand strikers on the Thames, including six hundred lightermen. The Chamber of Commerce has arranged a conference whereat masters and men have agreed to Sir A. K. Rollit to act as arbitrator to decide whether the dockers' work is stevedores' work, and, consequently, whether they are entitled to eightpence rates. CLYDE MEN'S DEMANDS. Received 4, 11 p.m. London, October 4. Nineteen trades connected with Clyde shipbuilding and engineering industries are demanding a shilling weekly advance for piecework.
