THE PANTOMIME.
"JACK AND THE BEANSTALK." | Writes the critic of the Auckland Star I about "Jack and the Beanstalk," the glittering pantomimic production to be presented here oil Monday next by Mr. J. C. Williamson's company:—'"The ballets and staging alone would ensure the success of "Jack and the Beanstalk.' They aro on u scale that has never been eclipsed in New Zealand. It is a stupendous production, the 'Grand Fairy Ballet,' the 'All Nations Ballet,' the 'Military Ballet,' and the great 'March of the Wines' being masterpieces of invention and arrangement. Beautiful women, beautiful costumes, beautiful scenery, combine to make visions of glittering glory, and the 'Glow-worm Ballet,' in which the fays and fairies dance bewilderingly through a maze of lights and colors takes I lie delighted house) by storm. The maypole scene in 'Fairyland,' where the elves play bewitchingly with ropes of colored electric globes, is typical of a Williamson production at its very best. The military pageant was equally pleasing, and the 'March of the Wines' certainly something out of the ordinary, the costuming being superb, and the grouping splendid and picturesque. Other delightful scenes were those of the village fair in 'Areadee,' the electric merry-go-round, the 'Golden Gates of Cloudland,' Princess Edwidge's fascinating aeroplane trip, and the storming of the giant's castle. These are, to our way of thinking, the best that have ever been seen in New Zealand in pantqmimc. Certainly the music is immeasurably superior. The cadences of 'lt's growing" and the 'Glow-worm' chorus being good enough for opera." To this must be added the appearance of a collection of artists whose names in England and America unquestionably stand for all that is excellent in this class of entertainment. Consequently it is 110 great .wonder that "Jack and the Beanstalk" has had a phenomenally successful career —having broken all records for pantomime south of the line. The box plan is at Collier's.
