THE DOCKERS' STRIKE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, August 1. There is a fresh strike of London dockers and allied workers. All the Tilbury docks are involved except the employees of the Port of London Authority. Ten thousand, men have been rendered idle, and the lonic is unable to unload meat and fruit. The men assert that the masters recently agreed to a uniform eightpence per hour for all classes of dockworkers, and that the masters now repudiate the agreement. SETTLEMENT AT NEWPORT. , London, August 1. The Newport strike has been settled after a 22 hours' conference. The agreement includes the recognition of the unions. NEW ZEALAND SEAMEN ,AND SHIPOWNERS. The dispute between the Merchant Service Guild and shipowners, in which improved conditions of employment, payment for overtime, a new scale oif wages, an eight hours' day system, and preference to unionists are asked, for, comes before the Conciliation Council on August 14. Eighteen shipping owners or companies atnd about 500 employees arc concerned.
