CANADIAN POLITICS
~} SIR W. LAUEIER ON THE STUMP. By Cable —Press Association —Oopyright. London, August 1. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, in his election address, recites the history of the reciprocity movement, declaring that the present Conservative Party seeks to reverse the policy of its great leader, Sir John Mac Donald. Sir Wilfrid Laurier denies that reciprocity is likely to lead to the annexation of Canada, and adds that the British preference will be maintained. The Conservatives express confidence in gaining a majority in British Columbia, Manitoba and Ontario. It is expected that Sir Wilfrid Laurier will hold Quebec, but the unpopularity of his naval policy will probably cost him some seats.
