NEW SOTJTH WALFjS BEATS. QUEENSLAND. Brisbane, July 30. In the Rugby Union match between New South Wales and Queensland the former won by 18 points to 12. THE NORTH ISLAND TOURING TEAM. Thursday's match at New Plymouth between: the Taranaki representatives and the North Island country .districts touring team should be interesting. A team that can draw with Auckland must be considered a very fine combination, particularly when, as was the case here, the men were gathered together from different parts of the island awl sent on the field practically without a preliminary practice of the full team. A local footballer saw the match, and he considers the visitors had hard luek in not securing a win, for in the last stages of the game they seemed to have matters all their own way. Some of the men, he says, are brilliant, the full back, McKenzie (a brother of "Off-side Mac"), taking the fancy of the Auckland crowd to oil astonishing degree. I The spectators, he says, gave the team "a splendid hearing," and the general opinion seemed to be that in a second meeting between the two teams the | tourists would prevail. The Taranaki men are thus up against a ipretty stiff proposition, and they will have to play all they know to win. The match promises to be an exciting one, and the result of the Auckland match should assure a large crowd here.
