THE WOOL BILL. By Gable—Press Association—Copyright ' Washington, July 28. The Insurgent Republicans, uniting : with the Democrats in the Senate, carried a compromise on the Wool Bill, placing the rate at 25 per cent, on •v.w wool. The House of Representatives is disinclined to accept the compromise, but conferences are expected to result in agreement. It is unknown if Mr. Taft will veto the measure, in accordance with Lis previous hints. A further anti-trust campaign has been planned. According to the At-torney-General a thousand complaints of evasion of the Sheridan Law are being I investigated. A COALITION. MR. TAFT'S DILEMMA. Received 30, 5.5 p.m. Washington, July 2fl. A coalition of Progressive Republicans and Democrats is impending, and a far-reaching revision of tariffs is probable. It is declared that the Farmers' Free List Bill, the compromised Wool Bill and probably the Cotton Bill will be passed, all lowering the duties. The main intention of the Farmers' Free List Bill is to recompense agriculturists for probable loss under the Canadian reciprocity agreement. Mr. Taft is pledged to await the report of the Tariff Board before assenting to new tariff legislation. Consequently the President is likely to be compelled to veto the above measures, which have been passed by a Republican vote.
