BREACHES OF ARBITRATION AWARDS. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wellington, Last Night. Before Dr. McArthur, S.M.„ to-day,. Johnson and Son, printers, were proceeded against by the Labor Department for employing Isaac Mawhiney as a compositor from January H to June 24, 1011, at £2 per week instead of £3 ss, a* requited by the Wellington Typographical award. The evidence showed that Mawhiney had been employed by Johnson and Son since June 18, 1010, at 25s weekly, till November 8, when he received £2 weekly. He could not be classed as a turnover, as he had been about ten years at the trade, and was about 30 years old. Defendants were fined £lO.
Isaac Mawhiney, for accepting less than the award rate of wages, was fined £l.
William Jaimcs Hart, butcher, at Island Bay, was fined £2 for breach of award in employing casual boy labor.
