5000 HOUSES DESTROYED. FIRE PUMPS POWERLESS. FIRE STILL BURNING FIERCELY. By Cable.—Press Association.— G*pf right Received 25, 11 p.m. Constantinople, July 25. The great fire started at several points, and two square miles were devastated. Five thousand houses were destroyed, and the damage amounts to £2,000,000. The Ministries of War and Finance escaped, but the General Staff buildings are burning. A beam fell on Skevet Pasha. Twelve alleged political incendiaries were arrested. The fire is still burning furiously. Pumps are powerless to cope with the fire, which spreads quickly owing to wooden houses and narrow streets.
