THE CASE OF AXXIE BRIGGS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. The Acting-Minister of Justice, tho Hon. 0. Fowlds, informed a Post representative that he had made full enquiries into the ease of the girl Brings, who had been sentenced to twenty-one days' imprisonment for abandoning an infant child. He was not prepared to say that the sentence was unduly severe, but was of opinion that there was nothing to be gained by keeping the girl in gaol, and she would be released. During the few days she had been in gaol she hud not associated with criminals. The police had taken proceedings against the alleged father of the child, and arrangements had been mads for finding a home in Wellington for the girl pending the hearing of the case. '
