Mr. Holman declares that the Government intends to proceed with the harbor tunnel, connecting the north shore with the city, and hopes before the recess to submit a definite proposal to Parliament. AGRICULTURAL LABOR NEEDED. Received 17, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, July 17. The Farmers' and Settlers' Conference strongly urge the Federal and State Governments to adopt an up-to-date scheme to obtain agricultural immigrant labor.
COLLIERS STRIKE. Received 18, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, July 17. A stoppage occurred in the Lithgow colliery, owing to the miners striking over the dismissal of one of their number. Unless a speedy settlement occurs the ironworks will have to close. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HOUSE. Received 18, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, July 17. A deputation to Mr. Holman protested against the abolition of the Federal Government House. Mr. Holman replied that it was a Commonwealth matter, and added that now the States were not receiving surpluses, the Federal services previously performed by the States should be compensated.
