PRIVATE DETECTIVES.
REMARKABLE DISCLOSURES. BLACKGUARDLY CONDUCT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Some remarkable disclosures with regard to the methods of private detectives were made in the Court this afternoon in a case brought before Mr. Kettle, S.M. Henry Kehoe, who was charged with disobedience .of an order for the maintenance of his wife, was represented by Mr. McArthux. Mr. Lundon appeared for Alice Kehoe. The evidence of defendant's neglect to provide maintenance was first called, and then evidence was called for the defence.
Donald McNab said he received the sum of £lO from Kehoe to inquire into his wife's habits of living. He said hj« was a private detective, with racecourse experience. He admitted gbipg to the woman's house and asking for board, and he admitted committing adultery with her.
The magistrate: So that is. what you, a respectable private detective did? Witness: Yes. Mr. Lundon: You are a married man? Witness: Yesr :i ■/. ' t. Mr. Lundon: Have you any children 1 Witness: No.
Mr. Lundon: Thank God for that. 1 Alice Kehoe denied that she had misconducted herself with McNab. Hi» statements were untrue. She suspected 1 that McNab was a private detective, and told him so.
Defendant then went into the box and offered to pay 15s a week towardsfthe maintenance of his wife and children. Mr. Kettle said the case would be adr journed for a time. The circumstances were extraordinary, and it was difficult to know whom to believe. "I won't express my opinion of McNab," continued Mr. Kettle. "If I did I might find it difficult to find words to express myself, even assuming that his statements were true."
"All the greater blackguard if. they are," remarked Mr. Lundon.
