The magistrate at Kaitangata decided to-day that members of unions acting as delegates for their unions at conferences have not a legal claim to recover by legal force payment from their unions for their services. A meeting of the sub'-comniittee of the Clydesdale horse-breeders appointed to make arrangements for a conference to take place the first week in August was held to-day. A number of letters from prominent breeders offering cordial support in the proposed formation of a New Zealand Clydesdale Horse Society were read. The Egmont A. and P. Society has decided to fall into line with Ota'go in the matter, and other societies have promised hearty co-operation in the project. FAILING TO REGISTER. Timaru, Last Night.

The first local case under the clause ofthe Defence Act compelling all youths to register for military service washoard to-day, W. R. Thompson, aged IC, having failed to register. It was shown that he filled in the necessary forms in an impudent manner. He was convicted and cautioned. ■ OVERCROWDING A THEATRE. Timaru, Last Night. The manager of Fuller's Pictures was convicted and ordered to pay costs and solicitor's fee for overcrowding a theatre on King's Birthday. The magistrate remarked that in licensing such buildings the number allowed in each sec tion should be stated, not a single total, or the circle might be dangerously overcrowded within the limit of the lijense.
