TARANAKI ART SOCIETY
| There were several ladies and gentlemen present at the Technical College on Tuesday night to discuss the name of the new art club, election of officers, etc. Mr. Hutton was voted to the chair. There was some discussion as I to whether an art club should be formed embracing various crafts op simply a sketch or palette club. It was decided, on the motion of Mrs. IF. Fookes and seconded by Mr. W. Nixon, that, the society be named "The Taranaki Arts and Crafts Society." The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr. Ifutton; secretary, Mr. A. M. Bradbury; committee, Mesdames Cooke, IT. Fookes, Whetter and PercySmith, Messrs. Cooke, Arden, Nixon, and Robinson. There will be two classes of members, working and honorary. The working members' subscription was fixed at 5s and honorary members' 10s. The latter includes admission to exhibition and lectures and five art union tickets. The subjects decided upon for the first month's work were:—Landscape, study of a trunk of a tree, still life, fruit, marine Btudy, a boat, and figure study, a child's lead.
