Senator Cummins sought to amend the Reciprocity Bill in the Senate by increasing the number of Canadian manufactures' to be admitted free. The amendment was defeated by 53 votes to 14. Senator Bailey offered an nmendment imposing a 25 per cent, duty on raw wool. Consideration of this change was postponed. Among other amendments defeated was the proposed free-listing of iron, coal, woollen anil cotton goods, leather, and silks.

An amendment giving power to Mr. Taft to terminate the agreement when Canada abrogated her part was defeated.

Senator Lodge insisted that Canada's good faith would prevent such a contingency.
