CARGO BROACHING.
STARTLING DISCLOSURES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Tuesday, startling disclosures have been made concerning wholesale thefts of goods, landed from various steamers, most of the large shipping companies and several large importing firms being affected. Cases of tobacco, cigars, cigarettes, and other goods have mysteriously disappeared, the value amounting to £SOO or £6OO. Reports are current that arrests have already been made, but they prove premature. The police are exceedingly reticent, but somewhat sensational developments are expected.
A CRICKETER ARRESTED. Auckland, Tuesday. In connection with the wharf thefts the police have arrested Alfred Ernest .Madden, a well-known cricketer, who is tally clerk on the wharf, and usnalb employed by Huddart, Parker/and Co*., who, it is alleged, is implicated in the theft of clothing valued at £2o, the property of Hallenatein Bros.
