SHORTAGE OF LABOR.

Architects fully supported master builders in their evidence before the Labor Commission, contending that contractors often tried to be relieved of jobs beeause they were unable to get men. All agreed that Australians were better workmen than the imported article. At the same time all were in favor of the immigration policy. LABOR DEPARTMENT'S REPORT. Received 11, 10.20 p.m. Sidney, July 11. . The annual repsrt of the labor Department shows 4533 factories were registered, employing 79,972 hands, an increase during the year of 274 factories and 4814 bands. The increase would have been mmh greater if labor had been available to meet demands. Only 5.9 per centum of employees were under sixteen years of age. Never before was {here such a shortage of skilled labor. Yhe country districts' reports are as favorable as the cities.
