A quartermaster noticed' the door of the chamber containing the electric wires used in firing the mines open, and tried to enter, but was unable. When the door was forced, two men rushed out and overthrew the quartermaster after a fierce struggle. Sentries followed tJie men, who finally escaped in a waiting motor-car, containing a closely veiled' woman, nnd vanished in the lark-

nees. The sentries will be severely punished for not using their rifles.
