BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY REPORTS. The usual monthly meeting of the Borough Council will be held this evening, when the following reports and recommendations will be considered:— WORKS COMMITTEE.

The Works Committee recommends: That the borough engineer be authorised to proceed .with the metalling of the recently-formed portions of Morley and Barrett streets, the metalling to be 14 feet wide and to be at the levels shown in the plans attached to the contract with Messrs. Walker and Sons; that the question of raising the Western Park fence and removing the gate to a suitable position be left in the hands of the borough engineer to deal with; that the metalling of Clemow road at , full width be discontinued at Mr. R. Parkin's cottage adjoining the stables, that as far as Smart road the road be metalled 14 feet wide, and from there to the abattoir the road to be patched; that the deputation from the Technical College bo informed that in the future ns in the past no person will be licensed as a plumber unless at the time of applying for a license he shall produce to the borough engineer a certificate that he lias passed one of the examinations mentioned in By-law 1)2; that Mr. • Lobb's application for water supply in Eliot road be granted on the usual conditions; that in future where the whole or part of the cost of extending any water main is paid by private individuals or bodies other than the Borough Council the main shall bo the property of the Council, which may at its discretion permit other properties to 'be connected witji the main; the Council may, however, before granting permission for such further connections, collect a proportion of the original cost of the main and pay the same to the person or bodypaying for the main in the first instance, such proportion to be fixed by the Council; that the letter from the Taranaki County Council with reference to making provision for carrying the water main over tho Mangoi'ei bridge, Junction road, be referred to Councillor Browne and the borough engineer, with power to act; that consideration of the letter from Mrs. Browne and others, requesting that Bulkeley terrace bo formed and metalled, be deferred until the committee has an opportunity to visit the street; that Mr. E. L. Campbell be informed that the Council have no funds available at present for channelling in Gover street between . Devon and Courtenay streets; that the attention of the General Inspector bo drawn to trees overhanging the footpath in different parts of the 'borough; that Mrs. M. West a:H others be informed that the formatior of Buller street between Eliot street and' New Gover street is provided for in the new street loan, and that the work will be proceeded with in due course, but that in the meantime the borough engineer has been instructed to effect temporary repairs in the street in question; that the committee lias no recommendation to make in connection with the application of Mr. (Voodacre for a refund of the fine inflicted on him for breach of the by-law relating to lights on vehicles; that the specifications for the kerbing and channelling in Gilbert street be amended to provide for alternate tenders for 4in. and sin. kerbing; that tender.? be invited for the work, to close on July 17, the executive committeo to have power to accept a .tender. ABATTOIR COMMITTEE.

This committee recommends: That the aimttoir manager report upon the questwin of providing a bath at the aimttoir for the slaughtermen; that the application of the master butchers to have the chilling plant run for freezing purposes for three months bo granted but in view of the fact that the chilling plant was not specified for freezing purposes when installed, the master butchers be required to take all risks and responsibility, and to indemnify the Council against any claims for meat being spoiled or deteriorated in value: that consideration of the application of the master butchers for a refund of fees be deferred, and that in the meantime the town clerk prepare a balancesheet showing the abattoir account from the commencement, and that a copy be forwarded to the butchers' representative.

ELECTRIC LTGHT COMMITTEE. The report of this committee recommends: That the application of the St. Aubyn Town Board for an extra street light be granted on the same .terms as previously £3 15s per light); that the electrical engineer be authorised to stock lamps to the value of £l5O.
