Herbert's "Up-to-Date" made more than the usual "splash" when the sale started yesterday. The crowd of bar-gain-hunters caused a block on the footpath, even before they were loaded with parcels. And some of the parcels which, went away were very big ones for very small money.

An important meeting is to be held at Tongaporutu Hall to-morrow at 2" p.m. by the North Taranaki Railway League. Settlers will find it to their interest to attend, as matters of vital interest to the district will be discussed. Attention is drawn to the sale which Mr. Newton King is holding at Urenui Friday next on account of Messrs. Skinner and Son, who are dissolving partnership. The property is very conveniently situated close to the beach, within seven miles of Urenui, It is well watered and fenced, and sub-divided into convenient paddocks, and is planted with English grasses and well sheltered from the cold winds so often felt in the southern part of Taranaki. Situated close to factory and school, within a quarter of a mile nf telephone, this property should appeal very .forcibly to the farmer with a limited capital wishing' to settle in a steadily rising distret, . The cows to be oilered are all in first-class condition, and being all close up, should meet with ready sale.
A sale which' sltould tl'raw considerable attention from fanners and dealers will be held by Mr. Newton King on Thursday next at Stony River .on account of Mr. A. Alexander, who lias recently disposed of his N'aj-ea^estate. A largo number of bullocks' w'ill be offered, and these being in the -primost condition should meet with very keen competition, as should, also, the ewe.s, wethers, and the pure-bred Lincoln and Eomney rams. The horses include broken and unbroken draughts and half-draughts, hacks, and light harness horses, aiul ; being of the best .breeding, should be easily disposed of.
