DISTRICT NEWS.
URUTT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Matters are very quiet at. present, but the farmers will soon be preparing for the coming season. We must congratulate our iactory manager, Mr. Roller, on his success at the Winter Show. To get only half a point behind the first prize winner wfto to his credit, as ho competed against exhibitors from all over New Zealand. Wc are all pleased to hear that Mrs. Thompson, of the Moki load, who is in the New Plymouth Hospital, is improving.
Our district nurse is kept fairly busy one way and another just now, and has a large district to travel over.
To go to our township in the evening and see the gaslight makes one think we are not quite so far from civilsation; and certainly during the last six months the appearance of the township has wonderfully improved. It looks quite up-to-date, with the new store, two blacksmiths' shops, etc., not forgetting the improvements to the butter factory. The Tongaporutu football team came over to play the Uruti team on June 29. The game was a splendid one throughout, ani ended in a draw, neither team scoring.
We are having more frosts than usual, but they will do a great deal of good. The grass is still green though short, and cows are looking well.
