THE SEASON'S REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES. The following fixtures have been arranged for the Taranaki representatives this season: Aug. 3. v. North Island, at Mew Plymouth. Aug. 10. v. Maori team, at Stra 1 ford. Aug. 23. v. Manaxvatu, at Paltncrston. Aug. 26. v. Wellington, at Wellington. Aug. 30. v. Southland, at lnvereargill; or Aug. 31. v. South Canterbury, at Timaru. Sept. 2 . v. Otago, at Dunedin. Sept. C. v. West C'oast, at Greymouth. Sept. 9. v. Canterbury, at Christclmrch. Sept. v. Auckland, at New Plymouth.
The matches for to-day are as follows:—Rovers v. Star, at the Recreation Grounds. Rovers will probably put up a god fight. There is a mix-up over the United-Okato match. As the Rugby Union decided that any travelling team forfeiting a match should travel in the next round, Okato expected that United would visit them, as they forfeited in the second round after the country team had visited them in the first round, and Okato accordingly made arrangements to that • effect. United, however, have arranged the match for Western Park. It may not efrentuate. ' Taranaki had an easy win at Hawera on Thursday in the return match against Wanganui. The game was not particularly attractive, there being too much loose work among the forwards, and not sufficient of those brilliant passing rushes which so improve the game from a spectacular point of view. With the backs that Taranaki, possesses, the game should have been opened up, especially as the forwards were obtaining possession of the ball The day was an ideal one for back play The game was fast, the forwards on both sides played well throughout, and the bad judgment displayed l>y some of the backs in not finding the line gave them a lot of work.
The Taranaki forwards all played well. Hawkins showed the best condition. Ho would be useful in the, reps., when the Ilrown Shield cqmes ,round.the first of, the Shield ties, Otago v. Canterbury (the present holders) commences on' Saturday. Canterbury is without such stalwarts as Anderson (goal), West, llettrick and Dowker, -these men helping the South Island team to defeat, Auckland. Ilisset. the old Dundee Violet crack, takes the ' role as pivot, a new position for liini. Norman regains his place, and when in form he reminds me of T. T. Kitchie, of the O.P.'s.
Bill Fullfirton (centre half) will probably captain the Canterbury team. Fullerton lias no equal in his position in Mew Zealand. Starting his career with the Adrossfl.il Celts, he threw in his lot with Queen's •I?urk. l an(T formed one of the finest halMiack lines ever seen in Scotland. He also saw service with Sunderland. Aston Villa, etc.
If Otago fail, Manawatu will be the fiist of tlie North Islanders to journey South to try their luck for the shield. Marlborough and Otago school boys have arranged two matches to be played oft' this season.
The Wellington Association have got tlie school competition going. The boys' teams will be a future source of supply of men for the higher grades, and this step should assist the "soccer" game in no small degree. Wellington senior grade! is to lie further strengthened by tho formation of the St.. Mary's team.
In the charity 'ties in the Homo Land, the Glasgow Corporation thanked participating teams for their splendid efforts, the ?uni of £ll3O being netted.
Some of the more wealthy clubs in / the Old Country are treating their play- j ers to tours through the Continent, and ; the men are receiving great welcomes | wherever 'they go . The famous Glasgow j Celts were greeted with a floral procession in Berlin. I
The Corinthians, chiefly composed of Oxford and Cambridge piayers, are now touring the United States and Canada, where the Association game is coming greatly into vague. Test matcnes are to be played.
