SHORTAGE OF LABOR.
LABCRITES AND IMMIGRATION. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Melbourne, July 6. At a conference between the ActingPremier and representatives of the manufactures and the Trades Hall the question of shortage of labor was discussed. The manufacturers submitted statistics sliowing that factories could provide work for an additional 1198 men and 20P8 women. The representatives of the Trades Hall admitted there was a shortage in some trades, but contended that there was no need to import labor. The Acting-Premier considered that the demand existed, and would best be met by obtaining selected immigrants. DURATION OF BUILDING BOOM. Received 0, 9.30 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. Master builders, before the Labor Shortage Commission, declared that the pi esent building boom would last for fhv years whether there was a drought or not.
