THE TONGARIRO'S LIST. By Telegraph—-Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. The Tongariro brought 259 passengers, of whom 228 were in the third class. There were 45 assisted passengers—CS2 adults, 13 children. Nine wives joining their husbands and 18 domestics were included in the list of assisted passengers. A mishap occurred to one of the boilers of the Tongariro during the passage from London. At 10.30 p.m., about nine days from Hobart, the top of the combustion chamber of one of the five boilers gave way owing to a weak plate. The accident was accompanied bv a flight report, and a volume of •team issued from the stokehold grating. The electric light was cut off, and some uneasiness was expressed among the passengers. After a stop of two hours the -vessel resumed her voyage, using four boilers. The Tongariro, although one boiler was out of use, averaged 275 miles a day, and was not appreciably delayed. While at Hobart a drunken seaman harangued the third-class passengers, making startling statements, which tended to alarm the passengers. lie was locked up and next day apologised.
