The Trades Hall authorities admit the shortage of labor in various industries at the present time, and claim that this is the result of labor legislation and the confidence of employers in the Labor Governments. MARINE ENQUIRY. ' Sydney, July 5. The rehearing of the case concerning the wreck of the steamer New Guinea resulted in the confirmation of the previous finding, under which the captain's certificate was suspended for six months.

Mr. Tudor promised a deputation of banana-growers to consider placing a higher import duty on Fiji bananas with a view to developing the Queensland industry. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN POLITICS. Adelaide, July 15. Owing to the <leath of Mr. Bruce, member of the Legislative Council, Mr. Pcake's no confidence motion was postponed till to-day. MOUNT MORGAN MINE. Brisbane, July 5: ; Last month t'he Morgan Gold Re-' duction Works produced 4320 ounces of gold and the copper works 503 tons blister copper, containing: Copper 557 tons, gold 724 ounces. The total value of the products was £7fi,519. EFFECTS OF BREWERY COMBINE. Sydney, July 5. The proprietor of Wagga Brewery, giving evidence before the Wages Board, said that the brewery ring was spreading its tentacles over New South Wales. A large number of country breweries had been compelled to close and others would have to follow. In Victoria practically all small establishments had been crushed out.
