SERVING DRINK TO YOUTHS.
BARMAIDS FINED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmcrston N., Last Night. The Magistrate's Court was occupied this afternoon in considering the performances of one Leonard Mousley, who was 20 years of age last March, with a fellow farm worker named Faulkner. He arrived here on Saturday, and, leaving his companion, visited the Clarendon Hotel, where, he said, he knew one of the barmaids, Miss Miles. According to Mousley's account, he shouted whisky and soda for Miss Miles and himself, and she shouted in return. Then he eauie outsi-le and breathed on liis mate Faulkner to show that lie had had a drink, and wandered on to the Club Hotel, where :he pair had drinks, four or live' each, ranging from wine to shandy-gaffs, from Miss Lemon, whe, however, would not drink with Mousley, but took peanut coffee instead. Then the visitors started walking round the town till Constable Barry met them and asked Mousley, who was staggering, where he got t/ie drinks. Sergeant Willis took Mous'ey round, and he identified the barmai s, who were each fined forty shillings sid costs for serving a youth undor 21 years of age. For the barmiids it was pleaded that they had susiected Mousley's youth, and if they asied people their ages they wore insulted in return. Mr. Thompson. S.M., said they must ask the ages where any suspicion existed. If an,v»ie insulted a barmaid he eoulrt deal v. .1, him if brought before him. ,
