His Majesty's Theatre, which wae crowded. Speeches of welcome were made by the Mayor and Mr. 0. T. J. Alpers, president of the local reception committee, and responses made by Dr», Harriss and Coward, .both of whom spoke in the highest terms of appreciation of the manner in which the choif had been received and entertained in New Zealand. SUCCESS IX CHRISTCHURCH. Christchurch, Last Night. The Sheffield Choir opened to-night in Christchurch to a house of 3500 in King ; Edward Barracks. There was a slight delay in commencing, owing to the great crush of reserved seat holders nbout the entrance set apart for them, but eventually all 'got in. The choir and Dr. Coward, conductor, received a great reception. The orchestra did splendid work, and the choir gave proof that the forewords concerning it were truthful. Dr. Coward's conducting was a revelation. The solo parts were taken by Miss Alice Hecly, and Messrs. Henry Turnpenny and Robt. Charlesworth. The. booking is very heavy for to-morrow night's concert.
