MINISTER AND PLANTERS. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Brisbane, July 3. A further meeting of sugar-growers requested Mr. Tudor, Federal Minister of Customs, to return in the \ shape of a bounty the whole of the £4 per ton excise duty, instead of £3 as at present. Mr. Tudor asked whether, if lie did so, the men's demands, which seemed reasonable, would be granted. Voices: Not all of them.
Mr. Tudor: Then it will not be granted. He also remarked that an industry that wag not able to pay living wages to all concerned was not worth protecting to the extent of 50 per cent. He suggested a conference of workers, growers and manufacturers.
