Starting 1 well, Golden Cairn led out, followed by Rufus, Lady Esker and Arquebuae. ' Leaving the straight Bribery and Huiiterston went to the front, (lode Cairn attending. Passing the stand, The Reckoning assumed command, Arquebuse being closest, with Bribery running last. When there was half a mile to go, Arquebuse held the lead, The Reckoning and Sparkle a couple of lengths away, Arquebuse showed the way into the straight, the nearest being Sparkle and Hunterston. Then Sparkie made a determined effort to overtake the leader, but Arquebuse, showing no signs of tiring, won comfortably by four lengths, Sparkle beating Obi by six lengths for second place.
