Fortunately, however, the manufacturing section, 'which comprises a large building in the centre of the company's works, and in which the Hie originated, was equipped with the apparatus, which checked the flames, which had a strong hold. The fire apparently started on the ground floor in or near the lift, and quickly reached the top floor, but the brigade got it under in good time. The origin is a mystery, there having been no fire in the vicinity of the supposed starting place. The damage is estimated at from £IOOO to £I2OO. The section affected was insured for about £OOOO, the main policy being with the Royal Exchange Company.
