MINISTERS IN THE SOUTH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. Sir James Carroll, who with the Hon Dr. Ngata, M.P., and others, arrived from the north last night, went to Riverton to-day, and speaks there tonight. To-morrow night Sir' James Carroll will speak in the theatre here. THE HIGH-COMMISSIONERSHIP. Invercargill, Last Night, Sir Jn'lnes Carroll stated that the term of the appointment of Sir Win. HallJones as High Commissioner for New Zealand, which expired on the 11th inst., has been extended to August 31. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS. Dunedin, Last Night. At a meeting of the Anglican Synod to-day. the following motion was carried without dissent: "That this Synod approves of the New South Wales system of religious education in schools, and heartily welcomes the prospect of cooperation with other religious bodies with a view to having the system adopted by the Parliament of the Dominion." CHRISTCHUBCH TRAMWAYS. Christchurch, Last Night. The nett earnings from the operation of the Christchurch tramways for the year ending March 31st. last were £44,5(10, and after deduction of interest, sinking fund depreciation, fire and accident reserve and renewals fund, there was a surplus of £2219. Mr. Geo. F. Booth has been elected chairman and Mr. J. A. Flesher deputychairman. The passengers carried totalled 13,710,800, an increase on the previous year of 1.034,114.
