- ♦ ] A GALA PERFORMAX By Cable —Press AssMwton— London, June 27. Their Majesties, the Royal guests, and foreign envoys attended a gala performance at Coverit Garden Theatre. Madame Melba sang selections from '•Romeo and Juliet." Madame Tetrazzini also sang. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Mr. Botha, Sir , Joseph and Lady Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher, occupied a box. There was a wonderful display of jewels, uniforms and dresses. A hundred thousand roses were used upon a trellis of green, giving the houses the appearance of nn oldfashioned garden, in which the boxes were deeply recessed. The balcony was inseril>ed with the names, Australia, New Zealand and other Dominions, made in pink roses. The Royal guests and Sir .Joseph and Lady Ward afterward? went to the Duchess of Westminster's ball. A BRILLIANT GATHERING. THEIR MAJESTIES HAVE A GREAT RECEPTION. Received 28, 10 p.m. London, .Tune 2S. ■ A gala performance at Ili.s Majesty's Theatre included the Royal guests, ambassadors, members of Cabinets, Mr. Fisher, Sir J. G. Ward, and other colonials and Indians. Tt was a brilliant gathering, and the theatre was decorated with red roses in festoons among natural foliage. Mr. Forbes Robertson delivered Mr. Owen Seaman's prologue of welcome. Three hundred of the most prominent actors and actresses in Britain plavcd scenes from the "Merrv Wives of Windsor," "David Garriek." and ''Julius Caesar," wherein 240 "supers" (all eminent actors) participated. The entertainment ended with Clara Butt's singing of the National Anthem. * Their Majesties had a great reception in the crowded streets.
