CLAIM FOR SALVAGE. By Tttltgraph.—Presn Association. Wanganui, Last Night. His Honor Mr. Justice Sim to-day delivered judgment in the ease of a claim bv the Wanganui Freezing Company agaijist, A. Hatrick and Jas. White, owners of the foarquentine Alexa. Plaintiffs are owners of the lighter Thistle, and claimed £250 for services rendered in the salvage of the barqucntine. The Alexa ran aground on South Spit on December 12, 1!)10. The Thistle and tne Ilnrbor Board's tug Togo assisted in getting the vessel off and in keeping her from bumping into the breakwater. The defendant contended that it was the Alexa's own gear which pulled the vessel off, but His Ilonor considered that the services rendered, if only in keeping the vessel clear of the mole, were of some value in salving operations. One consideration of the value of the vessel he thought £250 was a reasonable sum for the services of the Thistle and Togo, treating £75 of this as having been earned by the Togo. That left £175 as the sum to be paid for the services of the Thistle. Costs were against defendant.
