At the Portsmouth Picture Palace, during a cinematograph exhibition of the Naval Review at Spilhead, a film ignited. The operator, unable to extinguish it, closed the apertures of the operating cabinet and rushed out of the hall. A cry of "Fire!" was raised, and two thousand people rushed, terror-stricken, to the doorways. Many were crushed, and a number of women fainted. It is miraculous that there were no fatalities.
