Henry Cooper and William Buckncy made a sensational attempt to escape "■nin gaol, and Cooper was fatally shot by i warder. The prisoners were working in the shoemakers' shop, and during the temporary absence of one of the warders climbed the iron bars to the id"f. MVrdcr Dri.scoll called on them to surrond t, but the men took no notice, so he ilrnl in the air. As they still took no notice lie shot Cooper in the body. Buckiior. seeing his companion fall, went frantic with rage, and savagely attacked the warders, but was overpowered. Cooper died shortly afterwards. It was his third attempt to escape, lie was once successful in getting free for a few days.
