NEW SOUTH WALES v. NEW ZEALAND.

In their second match New Zealand showed great improvement in every department, the backs and forwards combining well in an excellent and very hard game, which was rough at times. Several players on both sides were cautioned. There were forty thousand present. When New South Wales kicked off, the New Zealand forwards immediately worked on to their opponents' line, where several chances were missed. Pearce, from the ruck, passed to liallet, to Broom-ham, who scored. Messenger cortverted. Immediately on resuming, from a wild passing rush, Pearce dived across, and Messenger added the extra points. Although New Zealand's backs were playing well, they were no match for their more skilful opponents. Shortly alter, McKivett scored, Messenger converting. The score at half-time was: New South Wales 15, New Zealand nil. On starting the second half, the New Zealand forwards, led by Dunning and Francis, were conspicuous in a great rush. McDonald secured from the ruck, passed to Morse, to bpraguc, the latter ' scoring. Seagor converted. New South Wales 15, New Zealand 5. Shortly after Broomhani scored again, but Messenger failed to convert. New South Wales 18, New Zealand 5. From a scrum McDonald passed to Buekland, to Francis, to Seagar, and the latter dived across and also converted. New South Wales 18, New Zealand 10. From now on New South Wales had it all their < own way, Russell and MeCne scoring tries, Messenger ■ converting the final one. Final scores: New South Wales 20, New Zealand 10.

Of a fine lot of forwards, Francis and\ Savoury played the best, and McDonald at half and Gillet at full-back were excellent. New South Wales without exception played, well.
