EQUIPMENT OF FIRE BRIGADES
A STRIKE THREATENED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, June 24. Members of the country fire brigades threaten to strike in a body as a protest against the want of proper equipment and the non-payment of remuneration. Numbers have already resigned. The secretary of the Fire Brigades Board declares that in more ihan 50 per cent, of the country towns the brigade?, with their present appliances, are absolutely unable to cope with any serious emergency, while the situation is a menace to life and property. There is pressing need for the Government to take the business over and place the brigades on a propert footing.
