HOCKEY
CORONATION TOURNAMENT. The Coronation Tournament and Sports held yesterday on the Recreation Sports Ground were most successful. The weather was very unfavorable, and interfered with the attendance. The committee had made complete arrangements, and the initial tournament passed off smoothly, and the games were keenly contested. Messrs. Robertson, Beale, Patterson, King, and Avery rcfcreed satisfactorily., The Garrison Band under Bandmaster Cummina played acceptably. Results:— LADIES TOURNAMENT. " FIRST ROUND. Hawera (Misses Elson, Winks, Young (2), Manders, Bamford, and C. Andrews) beat Eltham, Wapiti (Misses Quinn (2), Smith, Whiting, Christopher, Jennins, and Sims) by 2 goals to nil. Misses A. Young and Winks scored. Atahuas, Kaponga (Misses G. Faull, E. King, E. Murtagh, I. Robinson, E. \A bite, N, Signal, and H. Moller) beat W hakatika B (Misses E. Johnson, H. Oliver, L, Mouatt, 0. Blanchard, G. Monteath, S. Bay ley, and M. Corkill) by I goal to nil. Miss E. King scored. Whakatika A (Misses A. Arthur, M. McEwen, M. Stohr, K. Penn, B. A. Fryday, M. Arthur, and E. Penn) beat Papakura, Ingle wood (Misses M. Young, I. Young, N. Allen, E. Harvey, E. Hoag, 15. Baker, and M. Spurdle) hy 3 goals to nil. Goals were obtained by Misses McEwen (2) and A. Arthur. * SEMI-FINAL. Hawera and Kaponga played a draw, one goal each. Misses Winks and Murtagh were the respective scorers. Hawere were awarded the 'game on account of fewer penalities. > FINAL. Hawera beat Whakatika A by one goal, scored by Miss Young, to nil. MEN'S TOURNAMENT. FIRST ROUND.
New Plymouth B (Seldon, Charteris, Okey, Nixon, and Emery) beat Tataraimaka B (B. O'Hara, Fisher, Allardice, Mnnro, and Grainger) by 2 goals to nil. Charteris scored botn goals. Ihaia (Baylis (2), Thompson, King and Lebeau) beat Waitara by 1 goal to nil. King scored. Tataraimaka A (Hedgeland, Meredith, Turner, Mackay, and Petty) beat New Plymouth Saturday B (Howden, Hammond, Lepine, Maunder, and Howell) by three goals to 1. Turner, Petty, and Meredith scored for the winners, and Howell for the losers.
Inglewood A (Stephens, Ward, Allen, Ilopson, and Sutherland) beat Hawera A (McDougnll, Kemp, E. Sargent, i Thomson, and Bone) (by 3 goals to nil. Allen (2) and Sutherland 'fored. | Hawera B (Bassett, Fryer, Bray, Sage, and Hutton) beat Eltham (Wade, Christenscn, Brown, Dyson, and Barnard) by four goals to nil. Sage ana Fryer scored two goals each. Stratford A (Cameron, Tocker (2), Bowler, and Curtis) ,beat New Plymouth Saturday A (Osborne, Putt, Napier, Cutfield, and Hoby) by 4 goals to nil. Bowler scored all the goals. Stratford B (Everiss (2), Dudson, GrilTen, and R. B. Anderson) beat New Plymouth Saturday C by 3 goals to 1. Dudson (2) and Griffon scored. Inglewood B (Harris (3), Priest, and Reid) beat New Plymouth A (Avery, Paton, Wood, Perry, and Pott) by 2 goals to 1. M. Harris and Priest scored for the winners, and Wood for the losers. SECOND ROUND. Inglewood A beat Stratford A by 2 goals to 1. Sutherland scored for the winners, and Dudson for the losers. New Plymouth B beat Ihaia iby 1 goal, scored by Charteris, to nil. Tataraimaka A and Stratford A drew, no score, but Stratford were awarded the game on account of fewer penalties. Hawera B defeated Inglewood B by 1 goal to nil. Page scored. SEMI-FINAL. In'glewood A beat Stratford A by 1 goal to nil. Sutherland scored. Hawera B beat New Plymouth B by 1 goal to nil. Fryer scored. FINAL. Hawera B defeated Inglewood A by 2 goals to nil. This game was played* in semi-darkness in two short threeminute spells.' There was no score in the first spell, but in the second Fryer notched two goals. RUNNING EVENTS. j Ladies Hockey Players' Championship (75 yards).—Miss Iv. Penn (Whakatika) 1, Miss M. Winks (Hawera) 2. Six competed. Ladies' Teams Relay Raise (535 yards).—Whakatika 1, Hawera 2. The only competitors. The local team led throughout. Hockey Players' Championship (100 yards),—First heat: A. 11. Bone 1, Thompson 2. Second heat: N. Sutherland 1, W. H. Quickfall 2. Third heat: Moore and Burdekin (dead-heat) 1. Final: Burdekin (Eltham) 1, Sutherland (Inglewood) 2. Won in the last few yards. Men's Teams Relay Race (500 yards). —Stratford A 1, Inglewood A 2 New Plymouth A 3. Hawera B. Waitara, and Eltham also competed. The local' team held the advantage durin® the first four laps, but in the final Cameron (Stratford) and Sutherland (Inglewood) both overhauled the local representative Pott (v||io started with a lead of 10 yards), and finished in that order. THE DANCE. In the evening there was quite a brilliant assemblage- in the Brougham street hall at the danee, which "was hold by he Taranaki Hockey Association to fittingly wind up tile day. The hall, which had been very tastefully decorated, was oocupied by about ninety couples, including a large number of visiting players, all of wljom spent a most enjoyable evening. The supper tables which had been artistically decorated by Mi ss Laing, were replete- \\ ith dainty edibles provided by lady friends. Mr. E. Humphries, M.C anil us assistants, Messrs. Averv and Wood were most assiduous 'in the execution of their duties. Excellent music was rendered by Mrs. Woods' orchestra, whilst extras were played by Misses Smith (Eltham), Bedford Brew ster, and Kirkby. At midnight the National Anthem was enthusiastically, lendered by all present. During the evening Mr. F. P . Corkili, president of
tlvc association, presented the prizes which had, heen won at the tournament.
