WAITARA NEWS
(From Our Own Correspondent). A public meeting is being held in Clifton Hall this evening for the purpose of making an effort to form an operatic society. From the number of vocalists and instrumentalists in the town, there should be no great difficulty in carrying such a proposal to a successful issue, provided the public accord its support financially. Without the sinews of n'iir none of these societies can hope to exist, and, if thefe is a desire to do something pretentious, loyal support should be a-ecorded. Coronation Day is to be celebrated quietly but with the object in view of bringing before the rising generation the glories of Imperialism. The proposal is for the Volunteers, Cadets, and Municipal Band to fall in at the Drill Shed, march to the school, where the children and all others interested will be assembled. His Worship the Mayor will give a short address, followed by Mr. W .T. Jennings, M.P., who haa consented to speak on Imperialism as it affects the Dominion. The flag will be saluted, a feu do joio fired, the National Anthcni sung, and the .band will render patriotic airs, after which the distribution of Coronation medals will take place. In tho evening the Fire Brigade is holding a ball, which promises to bo a huge success, judging by the amount of interest that is being taken in the function. It is expected that some 100 children will he taking part in the dancing, they having been under training for some weeks. At 10 o'clock th« adults will take the floor.
