Miss Rita M. Crawford has resigned her position as assistant clerk to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and Miss M. Campbell, of Opunake, has been appointed to the vacancy. Mr. Harold Carr, representing the "Royal Ilawaiians," a native concert company from Honolulu, is in New Plymouth making arrangements, for the visit of that orgahisat\pn to fkis town ou Wednesday next. Writing on May 11 from Glasgow to local friends, Dr. Walker said he had just put in a heavy week's work at the hospitals there. He has hooked passages in the Corinthic for October 12, and should arrive back in New Plymouth towards the end of November.

A Press Association telegram from Hokitika records the death of Mr. Edwin Finch, aged 81, an old and respected resident of Anihura road, who died on Monday «K the result of injuries received a fortnight ago, consequent on the overturning of a bucket of ooiling water. He leaves a widow and family of ten.

A Dunedin telegram states that there was a large and representative gathering of the Bar to felicitate Mr. Justice Williams on his knighthood. Mr. Justice Williams was much moved, and in reply said that while he regarded the honor as personal, it reflected back on his forbears, who held a honored place among English judges. A New York cable states tliat Mr. Taft's silver wedding was celebrated by a reception at the White House. Twelve thousand persons were invited and five thousand were present. Mr. Sc-hmuster, ex-Consul at Ecuada, Mexico, attempted to enter the White House during the reception, and was arrested, as it was feared that he was insane.

There were five applications for the position of junior mistress of the New Plymouth High School, all of whom had excellent credentials. After deliberating the matter for some time yesterday afternoon, the High School Board decided to offer the appointment to Miss F. R. Livingston, M.A., at present oil the staff of the Levin District Hieh School. 6

Messrs. 11. Eyre-Kenny and David Hutchen were yesterday appointed by the New Plymouth High School Board to fill the vacancies on the Board of Governors caused by the resignation of Messrs. J. E. Wilson and A. H. Glasgow respectively. These appointments are for the balance of the term for which Messrs. Wilson and Glasgow were appointed and will expire, the former in 1912, and the latter in 1913.
