OUTSIDE MATCHES. Wellington.—St. James (11) v. Old Boys (0); Oriental (21) v. Molrose (5); Petone (11) y. Southern (5); Poneke (20) v. Victoria College (6); Athletic (19) v. Wellington (3). Auckland.—Marist Old Boys and University drew, 3 points each; Ponsonby and Grafton drew, 11 points each; Parnell beat Newton by 30 points to nil. Two junior players suffered serious injuries—Tomlinson a broken leg, and Hodgson a broken jaw. Dunedin.—University (3) v. Pirates (0); Southern (11) v. Union (5); Zingari Richmond (12) v. Taicri Rovers (C); Kaikorai (8) v. Port Chalmers (3); Alhambra and Dunedin drew, 3 points each. Christchurch. — Christchurch (6) v. Merivale (3); Sydenham (14) v. Linwood (0); Maristfl (17) v. Old Boys (3); Albion (9) v. College (3). At the end of the first round Albion leads with 7 points, Christchurch next with 5, Sydenham third with 4%.
